Mobile milling for a very locally sourced frame
We are constructing an oak framed extension from timber sourced from the immediate vicinity. The landowner has felled and stored the timbers for a long period of time, most of which had fully dried out and subsequently lost bark and sapwood to rot. A true testament to the durability of oak is that the heartwood is immaculate!
This can be seen in the following picture.
The timbers are loaded on to the mobile sawmill, skillfully operated by Tim at http://easterncountiesmobilesawmilling.co.uk/
Each face is skimmed once, before being rotated and finally sized to the desired proportions.
The following video demonstrates the speed and efficiency of one cut.
