It’s been a hard few weeks, but I’m now coming to the end of a great project. What we have here is one end of a large tie beam, 200mm x 250mm in section, over 5m long. It has already had many man hours of joints cut in it, so cutting these ovolo chamfers and stops was somewhat nerve-racking! 



The whole frame is hand planed, so this needs to be raised during a spell of clear weather to avoid getting wet. Oak contains tannic acid, which gets drawn out in a downpour, the results can be horrific surface staining which is hard to remove. Hopefully this frame will go together next week, watch this space…
