Sweet Chestnut Cart Lodge
The timber for this Cart Lodge came from a saw mill near Ipswich that was clearing out all dead standing sweet chestnut from a neglected coppice. This meant the timber was already partly seasoned. Below shows one of the wall sections in the ‘al fresco’ workshop!
We raised the frame by hand, using many willing helpers.
Just because we had the timber, we chose traditional mullions for fun…
Naked…
With common rafters…
Nearly finished; the weather boarding and doors are all sweet chestnut.
